Dr. Robert F. Young is an Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon. His current research focuses on environmental policy and planning, specifically the transition to sustainable urban regions. Dr. Young is co-founder of the University of Oregon Sustainable Cities Initiative and was recently appointed by Oregon Governor Kulongoski to serve on the Governor’s Oregon Way Advisory Group.
Robert previously served as Director of Planning for the Philadelphia Recycling Office, was appointed by Governor Christine Whitman as Executive Director of the Office of Sustainable Business in the New Jersey Commerce Department, and served on the Board of the New Jersey State Planning Commission. In the private sector Robert founded two successful composting firms in New Jersey and California. Dr. Young's publications include articles in the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, the Journal of Urban Ecosystems, Urban Forestry and Urban Greening, and a chapter in Garden Cities to Green Cities published by Johns Hopkins University.
