Natural Resources and the Environment faculty and staff are unmatched in their diversity of expertise in natural resources and environmental sustainability. Expertise ranges from conservation genetics to global ecological processes, and from individual and group environmental behavior to influences of institutions and social systems as drivers of environmental change. They are dedicated to applying their expertise to teaching, research, extension and outreach responsibilities, including advising policy makers.

Thomas Detmer

Tommy Detmer is a broadly trained aquatic ecologist working on basic and applied questions related to fisheries and aquatic ecosystem health. His research is focused on understanding how habitat influences fisheries, along with investigating the roles of fish and fishing in food web structure and function. He is particularly interested in using an ecosystem level approach to identify strategies for the sustainable management of fisheries and aquatic ecosystems in the Adirondacks and beyond.
